Karen was twenty-three and is wearing her wedding dress, which she made with all its meticulous stitching. Laura was developing her ability to sit up without flopping over at age nine months. When she was born, Laura entered the world waving her hands and fingers as if directing a symphony. I wanted to capture this memory as well as Laura’s close connection with her mom as she clasps her finger. Thus, I entitled this painting “A Mother's Touch.”
Laura was the first of three beautiful and accomplished daughters to bless our family. This was painted in the living room of a rented flat where I had frequent visitors, one of whom helped greatly during the initial photography session to achieve this pose with its expressive countenances.
I usually prefer to paint bare feet, but Laura liked dressing up in her white baby shoes with their jingle bells and implied happy sounds.
