Julia is a very talented young lady. Her mastery of different vocal accents and her skilled historical performances have been more than impressive.
Many elements comprise a full-length painting, which is one reason why this one took three years to complete. The more I put into a painting, the more there is for the viewer to enjoy. I repainted Julia's face numerous times in order to capture the depth of the human qualities I saw there. Her young expression is tender, while the boulders, in contrast, are ancient and stable. Julia’s arms and hands alternate coming forward and going back, as do the legs. All of this brings movement to the composition. Complexity is a challenge for me, but I enjoy rising to a daunting commitment. Did you notice the subtle mountain peak, the fallen leaves, and the barren branches? Don't overlook the topaz necklace. The knit dress, which I altered from green to blue, has a glow about it. I am so glad that I see everything I initiate through to its completion. Because of this meticulous portrayal, Julia remains forever young.
